How do you get to Seville with your children?
Flying to Seville
Most tourists choose the easiest and quickest way to get to Seville which is by plane. To reach Seville by plane and for a cheap price you can buy your tickets in advance in one of the low-cost airlines (RyarnAir or Easy Jet for example). The airport is used by travellers coming from other Spanish cities, such as Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao or Valencia but also has connections with European cities such as London, Paris, Rome, Milan … If you come from France: Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Nantes, Toulouse, Nice, Biarritz offer direct flights to Seville.
The Seville-San Pablo airport is located 8 kilometres from the Andalusian capital and 68 kilometres from the Costa de la Luz and was completely redesigned in 1992 for the World Expo. Today the airport is entirely in line with the regional architecture with its garden of orange and palm trees and are upper level surmounted by vaults giving an impression of great space.
For families, the airport has baby services and children’s areas to make waiting more pleasant, and luggage trolleys with baby seats.
Seville airport is connected to the city centre (Plaza de las Armas) by the EA shuttle bus that runs every 20 minutes and costs 4 euros one way and 6 euros return. The journey takes approximately 20 to 35 minutes.
If you don’t want to wait for the shuttle you can take a taxi, the rates vary and it will cost you about 25 euros.
Coming by train to Seville
For those who prefer to travel to Seville by train, RENFE, Spain’s national railway company, and SNCF have set up high-speed trains linking the major cities of France and Spain. With about twenty journeys a day and in only two and a half hours you can reach Seville from Madrid or in five and a half hours from Barcelona. The train station itself is very close to the centre of Seville so you can easily walk to the city centre in a few minutes.
To obtain tickets at discounted prices, you will have to anticipate your trip, especially if you wish to leave during school holidays.
Coming by bus to Seville
Bus remains the cheapest transportation mode. You will find companies that offer advantageous fares for the whole family. Whether you leave from another Spanish city or from a city in neighbouring countries, the main disadvantage will be the journey time, despite the efforts made by the bus companies. So you will experience your journey more or less well depending on how easy it is to sleep on the bus!
Seville has two bus stations: the Plaza de Armas offers national and international journeys, unlike the Prado de San Sebastian bus station, which only serves regional lines.
Driving to Seville
Getting to Seville by car is easy, as it has an extensive road network of motorways and expressways, such as the A-4, which connects Andalusia to Madrid, the A-92, which connects it to Granada and the Costa del Sol, and the A-49, which connects Seville to Portugal.
Moving through Seville
Once you arrive in the Andalusian capital you will have several possibilities to get around: the bus, self-service bicycles, the tram or the tourist buses.
The bus
The bus network is still the easiest way to get around Seville as it serves all the city’s districts with its fifty or so lines. We advise you to buy “bonobus” cards from newsstands or tobacco shops. The price of such a card is €1.50 at the time of purchase and you can top it up as much as you like. The price of a journey with this card is around €0.70, as opposed to a journey without the card, which will cost you €1.40. In addition, you can get a refund of the price you paid when you bought the card, once your stay is over, by returning your card.
However, if you want to travel often by bus you can buy a pass on the same card: a day pass for 5€ or a 3-day pass for 10€.
We advise you to be very careful at the stops, some of them are not in both directions of the line.
Self-service bicycles
If you live in Seville or if your stay is longer you can use the self-service bikes only for 13.33€ per week. As in other big cities, Seville has a very good network of cycle paths so you can cycle safely and with your family.
The tramway: T1
In Seville only the T1 line exists, so the tramway is easy to use. The line runs between Plaza Nueva and San Barnardo station. You can use the tram with the same card as the bus.
Tourist buses
You can also take a tour with the tourist buses by buying a card valid for 24 hours, count 21€ per person and 10€ for children from 5 to 12 years old. This card will allow you to get off at any stop you want and take the bus whenever you want.
