Cool things a bilingual babysitter can do with your children in Barcelona

1/ The Barcelona Aquarium

One of the largest in Europe, will undoubtedly entertain your children. Located in Port Vell, the Mediterranean reigns in all its splendour. Its diversity is astonishing, with all those little fish, octopus and spinning eels. Other aquariums are occupied by bright and multicoloured fish from the Red Sea, the Caribbean. The best attraction of the aquarium is undoubtedly the shark tank, cleverly designed with a glass tunnel that runs through its centre, so that you feel as if you are living among them. Little trick if you can, buy your tickets online on the official website, you will pay less than when you get there.

2/ The CosmoCaixa

This giant red brick modernist building, built at the end of the 19th century as a hospital for the blind, has been spectacularly transformed into a museum. Young and old alike will be delighted to admire the flooded forest, which recreates the Amazonian ecosystem thanks to a glass path that allows visitors to visit the site. Numerous activities are organised and are a real success. These must be booked in advance (check the website for schedules and rates). During calm seasons, you can always try to come directly to the site, a little in advance.

3/ Beaches with a bilingual babysitter in Barcelona

One of the simplest activities, when the season and weather permits, is to go to one of Barcelona’s many beaches. For example, Nova Icària beach is one of the quietest in the city. It is mostly frequented by families with children. It has playgrounds, beach volleyball courts…

4/ Barceloneta

One of the most popular parks and appreciated by locals and tourists alike is the Parc de la Ciutadella, where you can find many areas where you can feel totally relaxed. Things to do in Barcelona when you’re a couple or with friends

1/ Rooftop terraces

In spring and summer, the real Barcelona is the rooftop terraces of the city’s largest hotels. If you would like to share a nice glass of Sangria with a magnificent view, there is nothing more beautiful and romantic than La Isabela at Hotel 1898, the 360º view and the super comfortable seats promise a perfect relaxing moment to share with friends or in a group.  Another option, more economical with an equally beautiful view, is the Sky Bar at the Hotel Central from 20:00 or the Pulizter Hotel near the Plaça de Catalunya (the roof bars are seasonal and usually open from March to October).

2/ A massage at Aire Barcelona

You may as well opt for a massage at Aire Barcelona. Here you will have the chance to explore the six pools of one of the most beautiful spas in Europe. The small number of guests guarantees total privacy. Absolutely everything, from homemade tea to massages, is of the highest quality and without a doubt one of the most relaxing and romantic places in Barcelona if you are looking to indulge yourself.

3/ The Gran Teatre del Liceu

The Gran Teatre del Liceu, located on La Rambla, has had a tragic fate, burning twice in 1862 and 1994. It was reopened in 1999 and is now one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world. If you are fond of opera, don’t hesitate!

4/ The basilica of the Sagrada Familia

The basilica of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Gaudi’s masterpiece, still under construction 128 years after the foundation stone was laid. Practical information

Flying to Barcelona

If you are coming from a foreign country, flying is still the easiest and quickest way to get to Barcelona. Barcelona International Airport is located about ten kilometers from the city centre. It is the second busiest airport in Spain.

Barcelona’s El Prat Airport is extremely well served by Aerobuses, which make the journey to the city centre in 35 minutes. Easy to take on both the outward and return journey, it is the most popular and interesting means of transport for travellers arriving by plane. Whether you are at terminal T1 or T2, the airport shuttle will drop you off at Plaça de Espanya / Gran Via Urgell / Plaça de Universitat and the terminus Plaça de Catalunya. These are the four main areas of Barcelona that will allow you to reach your place of residence during your stay.

Taxis are also a possibility to get to the city centre of Barcelona, with a journey of approximately 20-30 minutes for a price of around 25 euros. You will have to add 1 euro per piece of luggage.

The train runs between the city centre and the airport every 30 minutes between 5am and 11.25pm. The departure is at Terminal T2 and the journey takes about 25 minutes (if you arrive at Terminal T1, you will have to take the free bus from the airport).

You will also find many services available at the airport to make the journey and the wait more pleasant, including Air rooms to rest for a night, a few hours or simply to take a shower. You can find them on the 1st floor of terminal T1.

For families, the airport provides baby services and children’s areas to make waiting more pleasant for children, as well as luggage trolleys with baby seats.

Regional trains are a more economical option, but the journey is much longer, and comfort is not comparable. Not to be neglected, when travelling with children!

Coming by car

If you decide to drive to Barcelona by car from France, it will take you at least 4 hours from Toulouse.
