Would you like to work as a childminder in a legal and registered manner but without being employed by the parents whose children you are looking after? Then you should adopt the babysitter self-employed mode. How does it work, what are the advantages? We tell you everything here!

1. How to register as a self-employed babysitter?

To be registered and legally able to start your activity as a self-employed babysitter, you must :

  • fill in a declaration of commencement of activity (called Cerfa P0) without error
  • collect the required supporting documents: in particular, you will be asked for a copy of your identity document marked “Conforms to the original”, dated and signed
  • send this declaration and the supporting documents to your local Centre de Formalités des Entreprises (CFE)

These procedures for becoming a self-employed babysitter can be carried out entirely online.

==> And then?

One to four weeks after your application has been registered by your CFE, you will receive your SIRET number directly at home. You can then start your activity as a self-employed babysitter.

2. Can I become a self-employed babysitter while being a student?

Your invoices are an accounting document, mandatory for managing your accounts. It is important that they include certain compulsory information required by the Commercial Code.

Your identity and that of your client

5. Getting paid by CESU as a self-employed babysitter

Tip: make a declaration of personal services! This is optional but it will allow your clients to pay you in CESU and benefit from tax advantages.

What is the CESU (Chèque Emploi Service Universel)?

The Chèque Emploi Service Universel (CESU) allows private individuals to pay for personal services provided by professionals working for them. This method of payment works like a bank cheque and allows individuals to simplify their administrative procedures.

Two types of CESU exist:

  • pre-financed CESU, which are also sometimes offered by companies to their employees
  • the declarative CESU, paid in full by the person who holds it

As a self-employed entrepreneur, you can only accept pre-funded CESUs, as the declarative CESUs are intended for employees.

To be able to accept CESU as a means of payment, you must therefore :

  • have made your Declaration of Personal Services
  • be a member of CRCESU (Centre de Remboursement du Chèque Emploi Service)
